A Career in Real Estate

Real Estate Associate

A real estate associate is licensed to trade in real estate. Associates are registered with, and employed by or associated with, a brokerage, and are licensed to trade on behalf of this brokerage. Learn more about what a career as a real estate associate is like.
 
REALTORS® are licensed real estate industry members who agree to uphold a common Code of Ethics and Standards of Business Practice and are subject to the Canadian Real Estate Association’s rules and regulations. REALTORS® are members of local real estate boards, the Alberta Real Estate Association and the Canadian Real Estate Association. 
 
A real estate broker is authorized to operate a brokerage, and is licensed to trade on behalf of that brokerage. After two years of being licensed, a real estate associate is eligible to become licensed as a real estate broker. 
 
A real estate associate broker has met the educational requirement to become a broker (completion of the Real Estate Brokers Program) but is licensed as an associate broker rather than a broker. Associate brokers are not authorized to operate a brokerage.
 
The Real Estate Council of Alberta (RECA) also licenses the following:
 
Mortgage Broker

The Mortgage Associates Program is offered by the Alberta Mortgage Brokers Association.

Property Manager

The Introduction to Property Management online course is available through the Real Estate Council of Alberta.
